46 million Americans are completely uninsured and millions more are inadequately covered.

In federal lobbying alone, healthcare spending exceeded $2.2 billion the past decade, during which healthcare surpassed all other industry sectors in lobbying expenditures.

According to a Washington Post-ABC News poll in October 2003, 62% of americans prefer "a universal health insurance program, in which everybody is covered under a program like Medicare that's run by the government and financed by taxpayers," compared to 32% who preferred the current system.

In Maine, where clean elections has been passed, they were able to pass the Dirigo health care law, which provides near-universal health care coverage for Mainers.

With 46 million Americans completely uninsured and millions more inadequately covered, it is clear our healthcare system is broken.
