- 46 million Americans are completely uninsured and millions more are inadequately covered.
- In federal lobbying alone, healthcare spending exceeded $2.2 billion the past decade, during which healthcare surpassed all other industry sectors in lobbying expenditures.
- According to a Washington Post-ABC News poll in October 2003, 62% of americans prefer "a universal health insurance program, in which everybody is covered under a program like Medicare that's run by the government and financed by taxpayers," compared to 32% who preferred the current system.
- In Maine, where clean elections has been passed, they were able to pass the Dirigo health care law, which provides near-universal health care coverage for Mainers.
With 46 million Americans completely uninsured and millions more inadequately covered, it is clear our healthcare system is broken. Its time we cut the leash between the insurance companies and our elected officials. With a Clean Elections sytem in place, we can have politicians who are not in debt to their major campaign contributors in the pharmacuetical and healthcare industries.
